Ho Chi Minh City to build two more bridges, aiming to significantly ease traffic congestion at My Thuy intersection in Thu Duc city
16/03/2025
Ho Chi Minh City commenced phase 3 of the My Thuy Intersection project on March 14, 2025, featuring two major components: a right-turn overpass on Ring Road No. 2 and the right branch of Ky Ha 3 Bridge, each designed with four traffic lanes. According to the Ho Chi Minh City Management Board for Traffic Works Construction Investment, the total investment for this phase is approximately VND 312 billion, with completion expected by April 2026. The My Thuy Intersection project is a three-level interchange, initiated in 2016 with a total construction investment of about VND 1.826 trillion. Several components from phases 1 and 2 were completed and opened to traffic between 2019 and 2021, including the left branch of Ky Ha 3 Bridge, the underpass leading to Cat Lai Port, the left-turn overpass on Ring Road No. 2, and the My Thuy 3 Bridge.

Since the end of 2023, new components such as the left-turn overpass from Cat Lai Port towards Phu My Bridge and the Ky Ha 4 Bridge have also been initiated. However, the overall progress of the project continues to be affected due to incomplete site clearance. Component 2 of the project, which involves compensation and resettlement, has an investment of VND 1.623 trillion and is managed by the Thu Duc City Area Construction Investment Project Management Board. Out of a total of 195 households affected across 16.6 hectares, as of the end of January 2025, only 9 cases had been resolved with compensation by Thu Duc City authorities. The Ho Chi Minh City Management Board for Traffic Works Construction Investment has proposed that the People’s Committee of Thu Duc City expedite the process to ensure the full handover of the site before April 30, 2025.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Management Board for Traffic Works Construction Investment, if the site is handed over on schedule, the entire My Thuy Intersection project is expected to be completed before April 30, 2026. Alongside the expansion of key roads such as Nguyen Thi Dinh, Nguyen Duy Trinh, Luong Dinh Cua, the inter-port route between Cat Lai and Phu Huu, the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway, An Phu Intersection, Tang Long Bridge, and Ong Nhieu Bridge, the My Thuy Intersection project is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion in the Cat Lai Port area and the eastern gateway of the city. At the same time, it will help enhance freight transport capacity, boost the competitiveness of the Cat Lai – Phu Huu port cluster, improve the urban environment, and promote the development of Thu Duc City toward a modern and sustainable future.
